4 Tips to Improve Immune Function

Written By Preferred Family Chiropractic on April 29, 2023

Improve Immune Function

You can either help or hinder your immune system, which is always working to keep you alive. Our Clermont chiropractor, Dr. Adrian Williams, provides four tips to improve immune function and keep it functioning optimally.

Eat Healthy

Your body needs a balance of healthy proteins, carbs, and fats, along with vitamins and minerals to maintain repairs and keep you healthy. Deficiencies and excess of any of the aforementioned can lead to health issues and make you sick. Your body has to work harder to keep you alive when your diet is lacking.

Get Regular Exercise

Regular exercise comes with a variety of health benefits, including better mood, more energy, better sleep, and even better immune function. You don’t have to go crazy at the gym. You can go for a daily walk, or Dr. Williams can help you build a healthy routine that you enjoy sticking to. Regular exercise is shown to help boost the circulation of white blood cells, which can lead to them detecting and eliminating pathogens faster.

Get Deep, Restful Sleep

Like exercise, getting deep, restful sleep every night comes with its own wealth of health benefits, both physical and cognitive. There are certain functions that your body triggers only when you’re sleeping deeply, one of them being the production of T-cells. T-cells play a major role in hunting down and eliminating pathogens. If you’re lacking in sleep, you’re going to have a lower T-cell count.

Moderate or Eliminate Unhealthy Habits

Smoking and drinking are perhaps the two biggest unhealthy habits that can hinder your immune system. Excess alcohol impairs immune function, making you more susceptible to bacterial and viral infections while spiking inflammation. Smoking has its own risks, including increasing your risk of developing autoimmune diseases. Your lungs are part of your immune system, working to block airborne pathogens and particles from entering the rest of your body.
