Many people haven’t experienced the benefits of chiropractic yet. One issue is the misinformation that circulates about the treatments. Let’s dive into five common myths about chiropractic and the facts to determine whether it is right for you.

1. Chiropractors aren’t Real Doctors

Chiropractors and medical doctors both have extensive clinical training and outpatient care in the health care field. Chiropractors focus on the body’s innate intelligence to heal itself through the proper alignment of the spine and the removal of subluxations. Medical doctors focus on the treatment of disease with the use of medication and surgery.

2. Chiropractic Treatments are Painful

The popping noise associated with a chiropractic treatment gives the illusion that the process “cracks” bones and is painful as a result. The popping noise is actually just gas being released out of the joint. Sometimes the patient may feel soreness after an adjustment from the affected area being out of alignment. In fact, most patients usually report significant relief after a single treatment.

3. Chiropractic Never Ends

There is a mistaken belief that once you start going to a chiropractor, you will have to go forever. This misconception comes from that fact that many patients are used to feeling pain every day and have learned to just live with it. Pain is just simply our body’s way to tell us it’s not happy. Once the body is functioning optimally, the patient may return for periodic maintenance adjustments to preserve the progress and prevent loss of health.

4. Chiropractic Only Treats Painful Symptoms

Medical treatments, including prescription medications, are often designed to address symptoms rather than the underlying source of the problem. Chiropractic care targets the cause of the symptoms and uses specific spinal adjustments to restore proper vertebral alignment with the intention of promoting the healing process; thus providing long-lasting relief.

5. Not Many People Benefit from Chiropractic

Chiropractic may not be right for everyone. After the doctor has giving a detailed examination only then will they be able to determine if your condition can be helped naturally with chiropractic treatments. There are many adults and children who could benefit from treatment for back and neck pain as well as other conditions.
